Nike has become the latest global brand to face a significant cybersecurity incident after a hacking group known as WorldLeaks claimed responsibility for stealing and publishing a massive amount of the company’s internal data.
The group first added Nike to its dark web leak site on January 22, giving the company a deadline to respond to ransom demands. When no payment was made, the attackers released what they claim is around 1.4 terabytes of confidential information, including nearly 189,000 files.
According to reports, the leaked data contains product designs, manufacturing documents, pricing information, factory audit records, research and development materials, and prototype details covering the period from 2020 to 2026. While there is currently no evidence that customer information or payment details were exposed, the leak could still have serious consequences for the company.
Industry experts believe the disclosure of product designs and unreleased prototypes may create opportunities for counterfeit manufacturers to copy Nike products before they officially reach the market. The incident also highlights the growing trend of cybercriminal groups focusing on data theft and extortion rather than encrypting systems with ransomware.
Nike has confirmed that it is investigating the incident, although the company has not yet revealed the full extent of the breach or its potential impact.
