New Black Basta ransomware gang attacks the American Dental Association

On Friday 22nd of April 2022, American Dental Association (ADA) suffered a ransomware attack that resulted in ADA having to take their affected systems offline, which disrupted various online services, telephones, email, and webchat. It has been detailed in an email sent to ADA members, that soon after the discovery of the attack, ADA immediately responded to the incident by taking their affected systems offline and commenced an investigation into the nature and scope of the disruption. The incident has also had an impact on other dental associations that rely on ADA’s online services to register patient accounts.

The ADA also stated that they have notified the Federal law enforcement and are cooperating with them in their active investigation. Even though the ADA said the preliminary investigations do not indicate that member information or other data had been compromised, cyber security researchers have seen the allegedly stolen data from the incident being leaked by the new ransomware gang known as Black Basta. The leaked data includes W2 forms, NDAs, accounting spreadsheets, and information on ADA members.
