Flights suffer delays after ransomware attack hit Swissport

On Thursday 3rd of February 2022, Swissport, one of the largest aviation services companies in the world, announced that it had experienced a ransomware attack which resulted in their IT infrastructure and services being impacted and causing flights to be delayed. The attack was believed to have occurred at 6 AM on Thursday morning and led to minor delays between 3 to 20 minutes for 22 flights.

On Friday 4th of February 2022, Swissport released a tweet stating that the incident has been largely contained and they have been able to restore their systems to bring services back to normal. Although, currently going to Swissport’s website returns an error which could be an indication of they are still having problems due to the incident.

Swissport has reassured their ground services are still operational without IT system support, although delays may still occur. No ransomware group has been named responsible yet for the incident.
