Conti ransomware targets KP Snacks, resulting in long shortages

On Friday 28th of January 2022, KP Snacks, a major producer of popular British snacks, experienced a ransomware attack which led to disruptions to their supply chain that distributes to leading supermarkets. The expect impact of this incident is due to delayed and cancelled deliveries, the supply shortage can last until the end of March.

This incident has already been claimed by the Conti ransomware group on their private data leak page. Conti group have shared samples of credit card statements, birth certificates, spreadsheets with employee addresses and phone numbers, confidential agreements, and other sensitive documents. Conti has stated that they are giving the company five days before leaking even more proprietary data on their public blog, although there has not been any indication of KP snacks being involved in negotiations with Conti.

“As soon as we became aware of the incident, we enacted our cybersecurity response plan and engaged a leading forensic information technology firm and legal counsel to assist us in our investigation.” – KP Snacks spokesperson.

KP Snack has stated that their internal IT teams are working with third party security experts to assess the incident and that they will be continuing to keep everyone informed of any developments.
