Bank Indonesia confirms ransomware attack after Conti leaks stolen documents

On the 20th of January 2022, Bank Indonesia, the central bank of the Republic of Indonesia announced that it experienced a ransomware attack last month although Bank Indonesia stated that the bank’s operations are not disrupted because of the incident. According to CNN Indonesia, a Bank Indonesia spokesman said no critical data was leaked although the bank has stated that their public services wasn’t affected and therefore the risk from the incident had been mitigated.

“We would like to inform you that the ransomware harassment has occurred last month. However, Bank Indonesia has conducted comprehensive evaluation for the disruption,” – A Bank Indonesia spokesman.

Bank Indonesia has not released any details about who was behind the incident but the Conti ransomware group has claimed responsible on the 20th of January 2022 after leaking some files allegedly stolen from Bank Indonesia’s network on their data leak site. Conti has claimed to have 13.88 GB worth of documents to leak if Bank Indonesia doesn’t pay the ransom. No further information has been released on if there have been discussion between Bank Indonesia and Conti.
