MSI confirms network breach following ransomware attack claims by the Money Message ransomware group

On Friday 7^th of April 2023, Micro-Star International (MSI) a Taiwanese PC vendor confirmed that its network was breached in a cyberattack. This confirmation came following claims by the Money Message ransomware gang who has claimed to have breached some of MSI’s systems and had stolen files that they are threatening to leak next week if the company refuses to pay a $4 million ransom.

The confirmation revealed that following the detection of the breach, MSI’s IT department had initiated information security defence mechanisms and recovery procedures. The confirmation did not share any details on the timing of the attack, about if any of the affected systems were encrypted, or if the attackers exfiltrated business and customer information during the incident.

MSI has stated that the cyberattack has had no “significant” operational and financial impact. MSI also published a statement warning customers to ensure that they get their BIOS and firmware updates from official sources.
