German defense contractor, Hensoldt confirms ransomware attack by Lorenz ransomware group

Early this week, Hensoldt, a multinational defense contractor based in Germany confirmed that it experienced a ransomware attack back in December 2021 where some of their UK subsidiary’s systems were compromised. Currently, no public announcement has been made regarding the incident but the ransomware group who are responsible for the incident is the Lorenz ransomware group who claimed responsible on the 17th of December 2021 with a post on their data leak website.

“I can confirm that a small number of mobile devices in our UK subsidiary has been affected,” – Hensoldt’s Head of Public Relations, Lothar Belz.

No further details of the incident have been provided by Hensoldt due to the sensitive activity of the company. The Lorenz ransomware group have claimed they have stolen an undisclosed number of files and it is believed that they have published 95% of all stolen files published on their data leak website in the form of password-protected archives since December 17, 2021, to pressure Hensoldt to pay the ransom.
