On Wednesday 6th of July 2022, SHI International, one of North America’s largest IT solutions providers, confirmed that they had experienced “a coordinated and professional malware attack” which impacted their network over the weekend of the Fourth of July holiday.
“Thanks to the quick reactions of the security and IT teams at SHI, the incident was swiftly identified and measures were enacted to minimize the impact on SHI’s systems and operations.” – SHI International statement.
As a result of the attack, they release a warning on its website telling visitors to the sites, that they were conducting maintenance on their network due to a sustained outage. This involved the company taking down some of its system including some of their public websites and email. It also resulted in some of their website pages returning errors in relation to Amazon CloudFront.
It has been confirmed that an investigation has started into the incident which involved SHI’s IT experts working on restoring access to the affected systems as well as liaising with federal bodies including the FBI and CISA. The investigation currently hasn’t reveal any evidence to suggest that customer data was exfiltrated during the attack.
