Blue Yonder ransomware attack disrupts grocery store supply chain

A ransomware attack targeted software provider Blue Yonder last week, leading to disruptions at multiple grocery stores and retailers, including Starbucks and two major supermarket chains in the UK. Blue Yonder, a global supply chain management service provider for over 3,000 organizations, confirmed on Friday that its managed services-hosted environment was hit by a ransomware incident on Nov. UK grocery chains Sainsbury’s and Morrisons told CNN on Sunday that they were working to mitigate the effects of the software outage caused by the attack. Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Starbucks was also experiencing disruptions, resorting to manual methods for managing baristas’ schedules and payroll.
Blue Yonder serves several Fortune 500 companies, grocery chains, retailers, manufacturers, and distributors. However, it remains uncertain which other customers might be affected by the outages as the U.S. holiday weekend and Black Friday shopping event approach.
