He was originally arrested on October 8<sup>th<\/sup> of 2021 when he was attempting to enter Poland from his native country of Ukraine.<\/p><p>Shortly after his arrest, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that he was responsible for the ransomware attack against Kaseya where he caused \u201cthe deployment of malicious Sodinokibi\/REvil code throughout a Kaseya product that caused the Kaseya production functionality to deploy REvil ransomware to \u201cendpoints\u201d on Kaseya customer networks.\u201d<\/p><p>The indictment which has been brought against Vasinskyi lists three charges which are \u201cConspiracy to commit fraud and related activity in connection with computers\u201d, \u201cIntentional damage to protected computers\u201d and \u201cConspiracy to commit money laundering\u201d. If he is convicted on all counts then he will be sentenced to a total of 115 years in prison as well forfeiting all property and financial assets.
